Adopting a new love.

I have been giving some serious consideration to adopting another staffy to live with me and Gabi and Bob Ellis. There are a thousand dogs to break your heart at Staffy Rescue.org - that's where I found Ned.

GET A FUCKING LOAD OF HIM.

Of course there are many factors to consider when adopting another canine into your household. Will your dogs get along? Will the new kid adapt to the foreign domestic timetable? WILL BOB ELLIS GET HER NOSE OUT OF JOINT AND RUN AWAY TO JOIN TAP DOGS?

Ned has been living in NSW, so going up to meet him would have involved a road trip whereby me and Ms. Ellis spruced up and behaved like nice people for once. The two dogs would sniff each other around the anal glands, me and the woman from Staffy Rescue would politely chuckle and pretend to look the other way, then if they got along we'd head back down the Hume for a new full staffy household dog army.

This was the plan in December, anyways. Then the Krankivan blew up and cost $1400 to repair and hasn't been fixed til yesterday. Then my friend Fishbox fell in love with Ned and said cautiously: 'If you can't make it up there...and, you know...we might be able to...because we really want one of our own...and Ned could still play with Bob Ellis...would you mind...?'

Even more exciting. FISHBOX WAS GOING TO ADOPT NED AND LIVE DOWN THE ROAD! Many thrilled jigs were partaken in. They even bought a lead and a bowl.

Then this morning I got a text. Ned has found another family and has been hastily adopted.

They're in Melbourne.

Whoever you are, I really really hope I get to pet your dog one day.

Staffies are lovable lunatics.
My staffy maddie
*chews her tail when she is bored
*chases it at the beach where she is happy.
*shakes like it is minus 20 C when she is nervous
*visits the neighbours every monday to pick up the sunday roast bone.
*and has been beaten up by a cat, fluffy mutt, and a beagle.
But her funniest trait is her behaviour around the local rotty.
As we walk by the rotty's house, Maddie sneaks up on the gate, and when she sees that it is closed, she gets all tough and gives the rotty hell. When the gate is open she puts her tail between the legs and moves on quickly.
She is fucking nuts, she favours my wife big time, but I still loves her.

Oh. Wow. Ned is so, so adorable, and I don't usually feel that way about anything other than small Ethiopian children. I'm sorry your friend didn't get to adopt him. But how could anyone choosing a dog on the basis of that photo be anything other than big-hearted, and ready to spoil the pants off the dear thing?

Ned is so gorgeous! He's 'sexy ugly' (see: "Kissing Jessica Stein"). I hope he found a happy home and if we find him (and I will put Zippy on the case - I am showing him Ned's picture and he has nodded and seems to understand) I hope we can all get together for a doggie picnic.

When I was living in Scotland, my boyfriend sponsored a dog for me called Henry Ramsey. He was too old and decrepit to be adopted and had very short legs (much like his namesake?)!

Now I'm here in Oz I desperately want a dog I can call Uncle Len.

Is this wrong?

Was always more of a cat person but my ex and I got a staffy/kelpie x and whilst he is immensely annoying - ate/chewed anything including several hundred dollars worth of mobile phone, cables, remotes, power cords, shoes, etc etc - he is fairly cute too. The tail wagging and the whole body wiggle he does when he gets excited is quite endearing.
